Course Title 1: Research Methods for practicing researchers
(Evening Class Course 03:00pm to 07:00pm)

Learning Objectives:
The participants would be able to;
- Understand different facets of research needs in general;
- Plan and conduct researches that address needs of clients in the socio-economic areas;
- Prepare instruments for data collection and collect data;
- Use the PASW Statistics/SPSS package in preparing data capture forms and run tables they wish by using the PASW Statistics/SPSS Syntax;
- Process raw data independently and prepare final reports.

- Why should there be research activities in/for an organisation;
- Principles of a Research;
- A need for policy related researches and formulating policy research proposals;
- Statistical Data production cycle;
- Differences between natural science research and socio-economic researches;
- Organisation in a natural science research versus a socio-economic research;
- Type of data needed for natural science and socio-economic researches;
- Importance of Sampling knowledge in research undertakings;
- Preparation of data collection instruments;
- Collecting data and possible errors during this process;
- The use of PASW Statistics/SPSS package in data capture and processing;
- Preparation of PASW Statistics/SPSS structure for capturing survey data;
- Running frequency;
- Preparation of Tables (both frequency and crosstabs) for analysis;
- Presentation of data and interpretation of results;
- Report writing procedures and dissemination.
Target Group: The course is intended for Directors, Managers and/or Heads of Planning/Research Directorates, and Senior/Principal Statisticians in organisations or Ministries
