Course Title 3: Research Methods for the Academia

Learning Objectives:
The participants would be able to;
- Plan and conduct researches that meets the need of academic awards (for academic excellence);
- Conceptualise research problem areas;
- Develop a research topic;
- Stages in developing a research;
- Prepare instruments for data collection and collect data;
- Use the PASW Statistics/SPSS package in preparing data capture forms and run tables they wish by using the PASW Statistics/SPSS Syntax;
- Process raw data, present, interpret results and write reports.
Contents
- The need for academic research;
- Difference between academic research and other researches;
- Rules/Regulations in an academic research;
- Format of an academic research;
- Type of data/information sought in an academic research;
- Preparation of data/information collection instruments;
- Collecting data/information and possible errors during this process;
- The use of PASW Statistics/SPSS package in data capture and processing;
- Preparation of PASW Statistics/SPSS structure for capturing research data;
- Running frequency;
- Preparation of Tables (both frequency and crosstabs) for analysis;
- Presentation of data and interpretation of results;
- Report writing procedures and dissemination.
