Course Title 5: Data Management and handling

Learning Objectives:
The participants would be able to;
- Create a data entry program using Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) to administer survey data;
- Export data from a RDBMS into a statistical software package for analysis;
- Structure a simple dataset in a format that is suitable for statistical processing using a statistical software package;
- Code and manipulate data using a statistical software package;
- Be aware of the aspects that are important to maximize data quality;
- Archive a dataset ensuring that all relevant information is included;
- Correctly explain basic concepts such as population, sample and summary statistics;
- Interpret the meaning of some basic summary statistics including; frequency and percentages;
- Use PASW Statistics/SPSS to produce basic statistical summaries, tables and simple graphs;
- Use PASW Statistics/SPSS to carry out simple linear regression analysis.

- Elements of database design;
- Creating a data entry program using Access 2007;
- Organising data for easy access;
- Export data from a RDBM to a statistical software package for analysis;
- Statistical concepts;
- Organising data in a statistical software package;
- Producing descriptive statistics;
- Producing and presenting good tables and graphs using SPSS;
- Exploratory data analysis (EDA) for simple variables;
- Simple linear regression analysis using SPSS;
- Production of a simple statistical report;
- Data archiving.
